All the GPs, Nurses, Health Care Assistants and many of the administrative staff were available to answer questions and show what their work involves.
The Medicine Management Technician, counsellor, podiatrist and physiotherapist were available for consultation, as was our very own "Street Doctor" (aka Dr Goodison!). Demonstrations of the Blackthorn online service and the NHS Choose and Book system were given.
In the waiting room The Carers' Group, Arthritis Care, Lions Club "Message in a Bottle" and our three parishes' Good Neighbour Schemes displayed their information and gave advice on their services.
In the garden Sure Start, Bursledon Breastfeeding Babes, Health Visitors, School Nurses, Meningitis Trust, HYPE and Youth Counsellor, a Life Support Skills trainer, STAR Alcohol Project, Hamble Sports Complex advisor, Crime Prevention officer and PCSO, and the Air Ambulance shared information and advice. They were joined later in the day by the Fire Service with their fire engine!
Dr Tomson ran a fitness competition on a cycle and a rowing machine. A Treasure Hunt was organised with the prize of a pedicure worth £25. Congratulations to the winners!
Free refreshments were provided by the Patient Support Group which had organised the event. Those who attended learnt a lot about how the Health Centre works and were given some excellent advice about good health and the services available within the community. Next year's event will be even better – so watch out for the date, especially those of you who missed it this year! |
